i scan my google reader daily and pay much more attention to all the lovely imagery i see than the text. i saw these images on d*s on almost passed out with how incredibly beautiful roland bello's space is and thought "wow, we have the same aesthetic" and as i delved into the text, come to find out, roland is responsible for the artistic vision of the anthro catalogue- ah, of course! but i still want that chandelier!!

last friday, sara and i ventured out to the quaint and tiny town of ashfield, mass to visit our lovely friend, miss rose. it was picture perfect and a nice escape from the city. saturday morning we were awoken by the enchanting sounds of flute and fiddle cascading up the hill into rose's bedroom window from the farmer's market RIGHT NEXT DOOR! not only did we attend the market and empty the contents of our wallets there, we got to collect eggs from the coop and play with the 8 week old goats! it was dreamy...

putting his skills to the test, erich cultivated a hot sauce with mainly jalapenos and vinegar. he got the recipe from "jam it, pickle it, cure it" (same place i found the marshmallow recipe!) although i'm not a fan of the hot stuff, erich is pleased with the new condiment that is freshly and abundantly stocked in our fridge. taco night, perhaps? i'll make the margs ;)

so here's some pictures of our sunday dinner where we re-created one of our favorite sandwiches from basta pasta: goat cheese, kalamata olives, and basil on a focaccia. yum! also, a shot of the beautiful flowers erich got for rosie and i today. tomorrow is rose's last day at anthro...her talent and presence will be greatly missed!

friday night a bunch of us went to the "miracle on tremont" (passion pit, phoenix, and spoon show) at the orpheum theatre in boston. um, and it was AWESOME! a-w-e-s-o-m-e! seriously, one of the best shows i've seen. not to mention, we were in the 7th row! the energy of the crowd was insane, i couldn't even believe i was in boston AND at the orpheum. check out this live clip of phoenix from the show:

sunday evenings with ella, frank, and django

most sunday evenings, erich and i hang out in the kitchen drinking wine and cooking a wonderful meal before the long and hectic week ahead. in the sunday night kitchen, we listen to one of our favorite old time jazz artists (typically our good friends ella, frank, or django entertain us for the evening). here's what erich cooked up tonight: authentic sicilian pasta with broccoli and it was delicious! he also only used a 1/2 lb of pasta instead of the full pound it called for (so there was a higher broccoli to pasta ratio-yum!).

i don't really know "how" to sew, but i recently received a beautiful Bernina sewing machine from my aunt and have been testing it out whenever i have a free moment. today, having the day off, i decided to make myself a beach bag since erich and i plan on heading to coast tomorrow for a little summer sun and a relaxing day at the beach (can't wait!!!) i found some oil cloth sold by the yard at nomad and within 30 minutes i had a new beach bag for only $9!!

i almost lost my mind last weekend when i saw these chairs for sale along with a beautiful robin's egg blue fiberglass table and fiberella up in portsmouth, nh. i skipped the fiberella, but took the chairs and table. the table is outside patiently waiting for the rain to clear so we can grace its presence with rounds of refreshing moscow mules (thank you liz comperchio!) but without the aid of my determined little mattos, i don't think i ever would have managed to fit four chairs and a table into my honda. thanks rose for all your help. and even olive LOVES the chairs!!

on friday, being so beautiful and finally feeling a bit like spring, i decided to do a little indoor gardening. i've had an available vintage bullet planter that i got from brimfield last fall that was waiting for some love. i picked up three varieties of ferns, a staghorn, alligator and some cute little curly one. i love the way it turned out and it brings such life to the room! i'm looking forward to planting our garden...warm up weather!

a few of my closests and myself have dreamt long and hard about traveling to india. a few months ago erich and i decided to make this dream into a reality along with our wonderful friend rose and my brother luke. we're planning for next march (march 2010). and why march? because that's when holi is of course! holi is known as the festival of colors and the welcoming of spring. check out more images of the holi event here.

i love beer. good beer. but i am more recently a girl who loves drinking cocktails-- delicious ones! my two most favorite drinks, the grapefruit gimlet of the independent and the boheiman of green st are drinks that sum me up as a individual- sweet, but not too sweet, a bit of tart and sass and says it like it is, straight up! and what these two drinks share in common besides gin and grapefruit is the magnificent st.germain elderflower liquor. so i went and bought some and am trying desperately to recreate this amazing concoction.

blueberry walnut pancakes

this morning i put on my little chef hat and created some lovely "rustic" pancakes (with the help of hungry jack). i doctored up the box recipe with a 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract, about a 1/3 c. of finely chopped walnuts and lots of blueberries. and let me tell you--they were delicious especially smothered in vermont maple syrup (none of that fake stuff allowed!)

last summer erich and i took a trip out to Portland, OR, and popped into Everyday Music on West Burnside St where i spotted the best poster i've ever seen. it happened to be of a band we recently saw back in Cambridge MA at the Middle East upstairs, the Fleet Foxes. it was one of the best shows i've ever been to. one of the employees at Everyday crafted this fine poster out of multiple posters so it was awesomely 3-D and begged the girl behind the counter for it. she said it was new but i could come back for it in a few weeks; unfortuately, i don't live in portland. we've seen the ff one other time since and they delivered once again. la blogotheque, an amazing french blog that films artists/musicians, produced this "take away show" of the fleets. enjoy!

I've been asked, so what is your blog about? What is your focus? And to be honest, it's kind of about everything. Everything that inspires, whether it's an image, or a new recipe i've newly discovered, music, art, people, travels... there's no limits and no expectations. Let's just call this a work in progress, a practice- for those fellow yogi's out there you know what I mean.

from under the cloche was inspired by my own work and mission: (artwork coming soon)

I am interested in an examination of our material life by focusing on our environment and our surroundings. I am drawn to the natural, the found, and the hand-crafted; the subtle imperfections left from the mark of the hand become a poetic voice about time and care. I use repetition as a tool to draw attention to everyday things and reiterate the beauty that they quietly address. I dig for rocks, hunt through old family treasures, recycle materials, collect cast- offs, and acquire hairs from my own head to use in the creation of these works. These collections are tangible links to my interests and from them, I explore the poetic whispers about life's temporal cycles.

My work recognizes the quiet mundane objects that beg for our attention, as well as their nostalgic subliminal voice. It is within these sentiments that I create sculptural vignettes that invite the viewer to recognize the elusive, ephemeral, and lyrical nature of the everyday. Each delineation of materiality within these works deals with its own set of issues, whether formal or accidental, intangible or whimsical, the underlying unity within all the work is the play between balance and delicacy, tension and absurdity.
